Projects

Never – ending photography projects

I like photographing wild nature whether they are mammals, birds or only plants and beautiful landscape. However, some topics are closer to me and that´s why I devote myself more to them. I have been interested in most of them for more than ten years and I definitely don´t think they will ever be completed. They are my never-ending projects. I love returning, I keep learning and discovering new things.

Nordic Wild

The place in Europe, to which I am attracted most, is Scandinavia. Thanks to low population density you can find real wild there and ramble alone for days without meeting any civilization. The freedom and number of opportunities is such a big contrast to restrictions in the Czech Republic. I regularly shoot polar bears, brown bears, I return to the mating places of black and wood grouses. It was in Scandinavia where I met the lynx and the wolverine for the first time. In the future I am going to return regularly to Spitsbergen, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and Finland.

Hummingbirds

My first meeting the hummingbirds on my journey to active volcanos in the Caribbean brought me to shooting wild nature and I didn´t have any idea of how it would change my life. That is why hummingbirds are so important for me. I have been returning to them every year since the time. I am fascinated by their varied colours and distinctive behaviour, which I try to capture in my shots. I love telling stories from their life with images, without any text. It is difficult, so I decided to shoot as many kinds of hummingbirds as possible out of those 320 described. I have photographed 90 kinds of hummingbirds up to now.

Arctic Changes

Living conditions of animals in arctic areas change with global warming. Floating ice is melting and in summer its lower edge is moving towards north. Near the coast of Hokkaido, where you could see ice from the Sea of Okhotsk in winter months, you can watch only rippling sea surface. It causes changes in behaviour of polar bears, walruses, arctic foxes or Steller's sea eagles in the Nemuro Strait. I regularly return to these places and I always find quite different conditions. Wild animals cope with the changes and I like monitoring it with my camera.

European Orchids

At the beginning of the spring plants of the family orchidaceae can be found in central Europe. They seem not to belong here as they look in detail like tropical plants. I hope to have managed to record the beauty of these wonderful plants, even though many kinds of them (especially those growing on the territory of the Czech Republic) are highly endangered, and only a few plants of some kinds can be found. Now after six years of exploring locations with orchids I am going to pay more attention to the depiction itself. I´d like to show the plants in an interesting way, in uncommon light conditions, attractive settings or with some insects.

Little Owl in the Czech Republic

In 2016 I several times happened to take part in the monitoring of the smallest owl living on the territory of the Czech Republic. In the past little owls belonged to quite widespread birds, however the situation is getting really serious nowadays, as there are the last 100 pairs of the little owls living in the Czech Republic. With the growing number of my night trips to little owls I found that I must help them as much as possible. I started to support the project to protect the little owls financially and also with my photographs. I realized that if we want to protect an animal, we should know it well first. That is why I try to show in my photographs, where the little owls live and how beautiful they are.
