Dream Siestas
Every year, it’s the same.
Yes, we really do get up early enough to have everyone in the car with their cameras and tripods by 4:50 a.m., ideally arriving at the location 40 minutes before sunrise, still half-asleep and barely recovered from bed. Some people are not particularly happy about this, especially on the first day. But after one beautiful morning, our clients understand that there is a good reason for it when photographing landscapes.
It also quickly becomes clear that the siesta we promised around lunchtime is actually observed (most of the time!). We go out for breakfast, check out a new location, do some shopping before noon, have lunch and return to our accommodation for a rest. We don’t head out to the evening location until 4 p.m.
There is a reason for this. The most spectacular locations are at their best early in the morning and late in the evening. I think that is pretty obvious from the photographs accompanying this article.
So, in addition to landscape photography, we can take you to the best breakfast spot in Montepulciano, for a snack at the best bakery in Siena, squeeze you into a “Michelin-starred” restaurant in San Quirico d'Orcia, or show you the best shops selling local specialities (“prodotti locali tipici”) in Pienza, so you can take home the tastiest local extra virgin olive oils, Pecorino cheeses and renowned wines such as Brunello di Montalcino or Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.
I think that, apart from one small “hiccup” on the way to Tuscany, everything turned out absolutely perfectly this year.
The mornings and evenings delivered almost exactly the kind of sunlight we had dreamed of – and we even got some of that much-awaited mist. Which is certainly not something you can take for granted in this region, as I already mentioned last time.
If you are interested in joining us for landscape photography in Tuscany, Jirka and I will be very happy to see you from 30 April to 4 May 2026. And the fact that Jirka Šebek is the best architecture photographer and I am the best wildlife photographer certainly doesn’t make us any less qualified. :-)
